Summary

Quarterback Rank: #4
Overall: #29

You probably didn't think it was possible but Brees likely had his best season to date last year. He broke an NFL record for yards in a season (5,476) and had 47 touchdowns to just 14 interceptions. His lowest yardage total of the season last year was 258 yards. He was picked off just 14 times despite throwing the ball 657 times. Brees also completed a career-best 71.2 percent of his passes. Brees has thrown for more than 4,300 yards six straight seasons. He has 33 or more scores four straight seasons. Brees is playing at a level that might not have ever been seen in the NFL. He is extremely accurate (completes 66 percent of his passes for career), makes great decisions and spreads the wealth to a host of talented options in the Saints' offense. The Saints try to have a balanced offense, but remain pass-first with Brees at the helm. Brees had at least 35-pass attempts in every game last season. He gets plenty of chances in this offense, an offense he knows very well.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Brees should be the first or second quarterback off your board come draft day. He might have a hard time matching last year's magical season but he can near it. Another season with 4,500-plus yards and 40 or so touchdowns seem likely for Brees, who is in the prime of his career at age 33. He is worth grabbing in the first or second round come draft day, being a difference maker for fantasy teams.

Notes

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees' next contract needs to work for him as well as the team because his salary will affect the team's offseason plans for years to come. Loomis said he is confident the two sides will be able to reach an agreement at some point.

New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael said next week's organized team activities will not be run any differently than they would if franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees were present. The offense will work on the same volume of plays with QB Chase Daniel, who will take the first-team reps.

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said he isn't taking any of franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees' recent complaints about the slow pace of contract negotiations personally; however, Loomis added a new deal must benefit both sides. 'I feel for him. I feel with him. He wants to be here right now. I want him to be here right now and we'll work hard to get that accomplished,' Loomis said. 'It's important to Drew, but it's important to our team. The magnitude of this contract is going to impact our team for a long period of time, so we've got to get it right. It's got to be right for Drew, but it's got to be right for our team as well.'

New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson said he is optimistic a deal will be reached with franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees.

New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees said his contract negotiations with the team have become 'extremely frustrating.' The team placed the exclusive rights franchise tag on Brees in March, and the sides have until July 16 to work out a long-term extension. 'It's been extremely frustrating for me,' Brees said. 'I don't think the negotiation should have been this difficult.' Brees added that he didn't think there has been a sense of urgency from the team.

New Orleans Saints franchise free-agent QB Drew Brees could not say when he will sign with the Saints but did say he will be prepared to play when he does sign.

New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis doesn't expect any drop-off with QB Drew Brees this year in the absence of head coach Sean Payton, mostly because of the presence of offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, who has worked with Brees since 2002. '(Carmichael's) in tune with Drew, and he's in tune with Sean and what he is looking for offensively in terms of rhythm as well as scheme,' Loomis said. 'Sean's been able to mentor him as he's come along. He's grown each year, and he did a fantastic job last year when Sean was down. If not for that, I think that would've been an uncertainty with us - we'd think Pete could do a good job, but now we know.' However, Brees is in a contract standoff with the team currently and isn't working out.
