McElroy missed all of his rookie season, needing surgery on his thumb before the start of the season. He should be just fine for this coming year but will battle for a backup spot at quarterback. He also made some comments to the press after the season about team chemistry that could hurt his chances of keeping a roster spot. McElroy is an intelligent quarterback that won a lot of games in college. McElroy doesn't have much of an arm, though, and probably can't make all of the throws needed to emerge as an NFL starter. He has the makeup to be a top backup. McElroy is an accurate thrower that won't make a ton of mistakes.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

McElroy probably wouldn't be much help to fantasy teams even if he starts some games, which is highly unlikely. He is more of a game manager than anything, limiting his value.

New York Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said Tuesday, Feb. 28, that backup QB Greg McElroy will return in 2012. 'He'll be back. He'll learn his lesson. I'm glad he's on the team. We'll move forward with him,' Tannenbaum said.

Fantasy Impact: He was outspoken after the season, but it seems the Jets can look past that. He has some talent and could eventually emerge as the top backup.

New York Jets QB Greg McElroy said Wednesday, Jan. 4, in a radio interview in Alabama that it was not fun to be in the team's locker room this season, and that some teammates were selfish. 'It was not a fun place to be, I can assure you,' McElroy said. 'It's the first time I've ever been around extremely selfish individuals. I think that's maybe the nature of the NFL. But there were people in the locker room that didn't care whether we won or lost as long as their - they had good games individually.'

Fantasy Impact: This probably wasn't a good move by the rookie.
