Johnson caught on with the Falcons last season and got in nine games. He had 10 carries and three receptions in limited action. He has yet to top 50 total yards in a season since entering the league two years ago. Johnson has some ability, but seems more of a short-yardage option than anything. He isn't a home-run threat and lacks ideal speed for the running back spot. He has pretty good size, though, and runs pretty well between the tackles. He'll battle for a roster spot.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Johnson isn't worth using until he starts getting consistent playing time. And the chances of that happening in 2011 seem pretty slim.

Atlanta Falcons RB Gartrell Johnson is seeing action with the first-team offense in practice Tuesday, Aug. 9, with RB Michael Turner (personal) out for personal reasons.

Fantasy Impact: The Giants need running back help and Johnson is a talented, young back. He won't get much work this season, but could help down the road.

Fantasy Impact: Well, that was quick. The Chargers used a fourth-round pick on him this season, so this move is a bit of a surprise.
