Carlson was supposed to see his numbers spike last season with a new offense in place. That wasn't the case, though, as Carlson had the lowest numbers of his career, catching just 31 passes for 318 yards. He 20 less receptions and 250 fewer yards than the previous season. Carlson is 27 years old and a talented player with past success, but the arrival of Zach Miller makes Carlson a backup in Seattle. Carlson has good hands, runs solid routes and has decent speed. He has a knack for making plays, but lacks some of the physicality you would hope from the tight end spot.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Carlson has little value in a reserve role. His numbers weren't very good to begin with, so they should really go south this season.

Minnesota Vikings TE John Carlson will receive a base salary of $2.9 million in 2012 and 2013, $3.9 million in 2014 and $4.9 million in 2015 and 2016. He also received a $5 million signing bonus and an annual $100,000 workout bonus.

Fantasy Impact: Not sure why the Vikings spent so much on Carlson with Kyle Rudolph already on board. He'll likely split time with Rudolph at tight end.

Free-agent TE John Carlson (Seahawks) has a scheduled meeting with the Indianapolis Colts, although it is uncertain exactly when that will occur. Carlson is scheduled to meet with the Kansas City Chiefs Wednesday, March 14.

Seattle Seahawks TE John Carlson (shoulder) said he is not completely recovered from the shoulder injury he had this season but has been able to run and do some weight lifting recently. He said he does around 90 percent of what he does normally.

The Seattle Seahawks may re-sign impending free-agent TE John Carlson this offseason because head coach Pete Carroll likes the idea of using Carlson and TE Zach Miller in the same formation.
Fantasy Impact: Not sure why Carroll wants both guys back as he rarely uses the tight end in his offense.
