Recovering from knee surgery, Smith did little his first season with the Eagles in a reserve role. He caught 11 passes for 124 yards. He gets a chance for a much bigger offensive role with the Rams this season. He could be a starter in an offense looking for receiver help. He'll need to prove he is healthy. Smith is a former 100-catch, 1,000-yard receiver, so the potential is there for good things. When he is on his game, Smith is a top possession receiver, moving the chains and making big plays. Smith runs great routes and can make plays after the catch. He isn't a huge red-zone target with 12 touchdowns in five seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Smith is a big question mark after the last two seasons but the potential is certainly there with a chance to start. He is worth a late-round grab come draft day. If healthy and starting, he could get 800 yards and five touchdowns in what should be an improved passing game.

Updating a previous report, St. Louis Rams WR Steve E. Smith not only has a base salary of $1 million for his one-year deal, but the deal includes another $1.5 million in roster bonuses, presumably paid out on a per-game basis.

I'd rather have more money in my pocket,' Smith said. He was referring to the one-year, reported $2.3 million deal offered by Philadelphia last summer that trumped the one-year, $1 million contract proposed by the Giants because of concerns about his slow recovery from microfracture left knee surgery.
