Tight End Rank: #33 Overall: #239
Scheffler's move to Detroit didn't spark a career season, but he got his chances as the No. 2 tight end for the Lions. Scheffler actually had the second highest reception total of his career, catching 45 passes. His yardage totals were down, though, finishing with fewer than 400 yards for the first time since his rookie seasons. Scheffler has three seasons with 40 or more receptions. He'll continue to serve a backup role for the Lions as the No. 2 tight end behind Brandon Pettigrew. Scheffler has big-play ability at the tight end position. He is a great athlete with good speed and the ability to make plays after the catch. Scheffler is a tough cover over the middle as evident by his career 12.4 yards per reception average.

Not a bad reserve option in PPR leagues, but outside of those, his value is pretty limited as long as Pettigrew is healthy. Scheffler won't find the end zone much (one touchdown last season), but can get you around 40 receptions for 400 or so yards. |

| Detroit Lions TE Tony Scheffler said he is not worried about losing time to rookie WR Ryan Broyles. Scheffler frequently played in the slot in the team's two-tight end personnel groupings last season, but Broyles has the skill-set to make plays from the slot as well. 'It's one of those things in the NFL where you learn to take care of your business and, as long as I do my job, I'm not really concerned with how he (Broyles) fits in,' Scheffler said. 'I'll help him out. We'll do a lot of similar stuff, so it's fun to have him. He's a great athlete and shoot, he's one of the best college wide receivers that ever played.' |
