SUMMARY
Running Back Rank: #16
Overall: #25

A move to New Orleans meant a career year for Sproles. He set career highs in rushing, receiving and touchdowns. Sproles finished with 1,313 total yards and nine touchdowns. He had an astounding 86 receptions, leading all running backs and finishing near the top of the entire league. Sproles was a consistent force in the Saints' offense. He had never topped 1,000 total yards before this season and his previous career high in yards was 840. Sproles really made the offense click and should be a huge factor once again in 2012. Sproles probably is the best third-down or change-of-pace back in the game. He fits the role perfectly. Sproles has great speed and moves, but lacks the ideal size to be an every-down back. He also is a great return man, having return scores four of the last five seasons.
FANTASY OUTLOOK
Sproles is an elite back in PPR leagues but a solid No. 2 back in all other formats. He might have a hard time matching last year's huge season but he can come close in this offense. Another year with 1,000-plus total yards and 70 to 80 receptions seems likely.
New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles ran three times for three yards in the Divisional Round playoff game loss against the San Francisco 49ers Saturday, Jan. 14. Sproles also lost a fumble. He did his damage in the pass game, hauling in 15 catches for 116 yards and a touchdown. The 15 receptions were good for an NFL postseason record. Sproles ends the postseason with 204 yards from scrimmage with three total touchdowns in two playoff games.
Fantasy Impact: Sproles had a huge showing in the passing game. He was a top weapon in this offense all season and should play a huge role once again in 2012.

The San Francisco 49ers defense understands stopping New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles will be key in their Divisional Round playoff matchup. 'There's no doubt that he's a unique running back,' LB Patrick Willis said. 'For a guy his size, he does it all. He runs in between the tackles, outside, catches the ball really well. He's a complete running back. Certainly, we're going to have to know where he is at all times.' Defensive coordinator Vic Fangio added, 'I can't believe they got him for the cheap price that they got him for replacing Reggie Bush. I think if it was the NBA, the commissioner might have stepped in and stopped that move.'

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles carried 10 times for 51 yards and a pair of rushing touchdowns in the Wild Card win Saturday, Jan. 7, against the Detroit Lions. Sproles also added four receptions for 34 yards, and he had two kickoff returns for a total of 54 yards.
Fantasy Impact: Sproles had his typical big showing for the Saints. He has been a top total yardage threat for the Saints all season.

San Diego Chargers president Dean Spanos admitted general manager A.J. Smith's decision to let New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles leave as a free agent last offseason was a mistake. 'That is a decision that I put on A.J.,' Spanos said. 'I was supportive of it at the time. Obviously, you can go back to five or six decisions that we made were wrong.'

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles carried five times for a game-high 67 yards in the Week 16 game Monday, Dec. 26, against the Atlanta Falcons. Sproles also posted 22 yards on two receptions, including the 9-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. That scoring play put QB Drew Brees at 5,087 yards for the season, breaking the NFL's single-season passing yardage mark.
Fantasy Impact: Sproles has been consistent all season, playing at a high level his first year with the Saints.

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles carried four times for 28 yards in Week 13 against the Detroit Lions, and he added five receptions for 46 yards and a score. It was the first offensive TD for Sproles since Week 9.
Fantasy Impact: Another good game for Sproles. He has been consistent throughout the season.

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday, Nov. 30, that the running back situation is not set in stone, and the coaching staff will look at it closely each week. "We value (RB Chris Ivory's) ability," Payton said. Ivory was a healthy inactive in Week 12, as he appears fourth on the depth chart behind RB Mark Ingram and veteran RBs Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas.

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles had eight carries for 54 yards in the Week 12 win against the New York Giants Monday, Nov. 28, and he added two receptions for 28 yards. The 82 total yards from scrimmage were the most for Sproles since Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts in another lopsided victory.
Fantasy Impact: Another good showing for Sproles. He seems to get it done every week.

New Orleans Saints RB Darren Sproles is enjoying being more involved in the offense in his first season with the Saints. 'I was thinking that my job would just be the third downs,' Sproles said. 'It's an adjustment. I like my role, though.' Sproles leads the team in rushing with 348 yards on 51 carries, and average of 6.8 yards per carry. His 60 receptions ranks second on the team only behind TE Jimmy Graham.

New Orleans Saints RBs Darren Sproles and Pierre Thomas each saw 26 snaps on offense in Week 7 against the Indianapolis Colts, while RB Mark Ingram was in for 27 snaps.
Fantasy Impact: Needless to say, the three backs continue to get similar amounts of playing time.
