Benson was his usual self last season. He isn't flashy but produces solid weekly numbers. He hit the 1,000-yard mark for the third straight season. He had at least 13 carries every game and averaged 3.9 yards per carry, his second highest mark in four seasons with the Bengals. Benson had three 100-yard games and at least 50-rushing yards in all but a game. In the last three seasons, Benson averages 1,143-rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Benson is 29 years old and has more than 300 carries in a season twice but for the most part, his workload isn't too high for a back of his age. He didn't get a ton of work early in his career. He remains a decent NFL starter. Benson doesn't have great speed, but runs with power and has good moves for his size. Benson can also do alright in the passing game, catching 15 or more passes five straight seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Benson isn't an elite back by any means but a more than serviceable No. 2 back. He'll get consistent yardage numbers on a weekly basis. The touchdown totals aren't there, though, which hurts his value. Don't expect a huge surge in production at this stage of his career. His numbers likely will be similar to the last few seasons. If all goes well, he could get around 1,300 total yards and seven or eight touchdowns.

Free-agent RB Cedric Benson (Bengals) is reportedly hopeful of signing with the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Impact: Not sure that will happen but Benson should find work from some team in the near future. He can still help a team.

Fantasy Impact: Kind of a surprise to still see him out there but he should find work with some team.

Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden is not opposed to going with a platoon at running back in 2012, with RB Cedric Benson logging at least 270 carries in the last three seasons. Benson will become a free agent next month, and the team also has RBs Bernard Scott, Brian Leonard and Cedric Peerman. Cincinnati is likely to select a running back in the draft this year, too.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent RB Cedric Benson will likely be playing elsewhere in 2012. The Bengals have made no effort to re-sign Benson as he heads toward unrestricted free agency March 13. 'We haven't had any talks about a new deal, re-signing or anything like that to my knowledge,' Benson said. 'I'm not sure where things are laying up there in Cincinnati.'

Fantasy Impact: The Bengals need to get younger at running back, so this move makes sense.

Fantasy Impact: Benson didn't play too badly last season but probably is nearing the end of his career as a full-time starter. He might find work this year but expect a drop in production from past years.

Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent RB Cedric Benson was not happy with having to split carries with RB Bernard Scott this season but is still open to re-signing with the team. Benson carried the ball 273 times this season, which was fourth in the AFC but only got to 25 carries in a game once.

Fantasy Impact: Benson didn't really split carries so not sure why he is so upset. He was the workhorse back in the offense but isn't guaranteed the same role in 2012. The Bengals could look to get younger at the position.

Cincinnati Bengals RB Cedric Benson was able to score the team's only touchdown in the AFC Wild Card game loss against the Houston Texans Saturday, Jan. 7, but he finished with just 14 rushing yards on seven attempts. Benson also had one reception, but that went backward for minus-2 yards.

Fantasy Impact: The TD saved his otherwise poor day. Benson might have played his last game with Bengals, who could move in another, younger direction in 2012.
