It is hard to believe but Welker actually had his best season to date last year. He finished a reception high of his career high and had career bests in yardage and touchdown. He topped 1,500 yards for the first time in his career and scored nine touchdowns. He also averaged 12.9 yards per reception, his highest total since his rookie season. Welker had eight 100-yard games and three games with double-digit receptions. Welker had at least four receptions in all but a game. He has at least 100 receptions and 1,000 yards four of the last five years. Welker remains the most dependable receiver in the Patriots pass-first offense. He probably is the top possession receiver in the game and Tom Brady's favorite safety valve. Welker is a small, speedy receiver with plus hands and the ability to make plays in the open field.

FANTASY OUTLOOK

Welker isn't a top No. 1 receiver outside of PPR leagues, but just outside of those top options. Remember, he has never had double-digit touchdowns in a season. But you can pretty much pencil him in for 100-plus receptions and 1,000 yards. He is about as sure of a thing as it gets when it comes to fantasy options.

New England Patriots WR Wes Welker said contract talks with the team have gotten worse despite signing his franchise tender. Welker is further away than ever from a long-term deal. 'There have been talks, but nothing that's brightened anything at all,' Welker said. 'It's actually gotten worse.' Welker revealed that the Patriots have lowered the two-year, fully guaranteed $16 million offer that they initially proposed.

Fantasy Impact: We still can't see Welker leaving New England but you never know.

With New England Patriots WR Wes Welker signing his one-year, $9.5 million franchise tender, speculation of whether he will attend the team's mandatory minicamps in June comes to an end. He previously hinted that he may miss the offseason activities if a new deal wasn't in place. Welker and the Patriots are still able to negotiate a long-term deal, which is what Welker has wanted from the beginning, until July 16. Welker said he thinks they are all on the same page and are trying collectively to make something happen in regards to a long-term contract.

There's been no movement toward a new contract between the New England Patriots and franchise free-agent WR Wes Welker. Welker has expressed an interest in staying in New England long-term. The team has been candid about wanting to keep him. At this point, though, there have been no talks or progress, and there likely won't be any until after the NFL Draft.
